The War That Saved My Life is an outstanding, heart-warming, coming-of-age story set in the English countryside during World War 2 and is historical fiction at its best. Reminiscent of Goodnight Mister Tom, we highly recommend it as a holiday read for our younger Middle Years' students.

Richard Harland, author of World Shaker and Liberator, will be visiting Mt Alvernia and Padua College to work with Year 8 and 9 students. Richard’s books are of the Steampunk genre which is very popular. Students will be engaged in conversation and workshops with Richard throughout the day.
On Thursday night 7 June five students from Year 8 will represent Mt Alvernia at the inter-school readers Cup competition. Amy Bills, Grace Wigley, Jessica Spokes, Emma Rapisarda and Elizabeth Lazell secured places on the team after a selection process in which a large number of girls competed for a spot.
How would we react if we were put in the same situation as the children in this book?
